How would I use what I learned

Computer Based Education is used every day by many of us: we learn how to cook, do renovations or use software programs through Youtube videos. I also have to mention that we are as students of Athabasca University as using the CAI in formal settings through our lessons in Moodle.

Will I use CAI in a future? Certainly, as long as computers exist, as it is become our day to day practice to search Internet through the search engines such Google or Bing for answers.

Computer Based Education

One of the original uses of computers in education was computer-based education, which involvs interaction between the student and the computer. If you reading this then you already had a chance to experience computer based education (CBE). There are few types of CBE has been identified since it's implementation evolved:

  • computer-based testing (CBT) - where the computer providing and evaluating tests;

  • computer-assisted instruction (CAI), where instruction delivered to the student by the computer;

  • computer-managed instruction (CMI) where the computer evaluate student's knowledge and suggests learning modules for further learning.

Computer Based Education is very common and part of our everyday life. It is used  at workplace to provide training, at schools and in everyday life when we try to learn how to use or do something.

One of the best examples of free and easily accessable CAI is 'Help' files for the software programs, Youtube videos, search engines, such as Google; or websites such Wikipedia. Today you can find a variety of the 'How to' Youtube videos on any topic you chose: from cooking, home renovations, repairs to screencasted videos on how to use software. Another good example of CAI is computer simulations and virtual worlds (such as Second Life).

Project Assignment on Computer Assisted Instruction

In this course we are asked to learn something of our interest using CAI and use this portfolio to reflect on our experiences. We are asked to reflect on why we chose this subject, what we hoped to learn, discuss how we used CAI to  learn the topic, discuss advantages and disadvantages; and what we have achieved with demonstration of the result.

Please follow the link to the to view the CAI project assignment .

Also this site has been created with help of WIX, that I had to learn on a fly by using CAI as my guide. I used videos from YouTube to guide me through.
