ABOUT THE PROJECT

What is this project about

My name is Yevgen Yasynskyy – student of Athabasca University in MEd program (Distance Education). I also work at Athabasca University in the Faculty of Health Disciplines as programmer-analyst, and part of my job responsibilities is to help Course Authors to put courses online and help them to select technologies for course activities and course material delivery.

Couple of years ago I decided to systemize my knowledge in Instructional Design and take Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Instructional Design Program with Athabasca University that consists from 3 online courses:

  • MDDE 603: Foundations of Instructional Design: Systems Analysis and Learning Theories,

  • MDDE 604: Instructional Design in Distance Education,

  • MDDE617: Program Evaluation in Distance Education.

I graduated from this program in April of 2013 and found this program challenging.

It greatly increased my interest and knowledge base in the area of distance education, which pushed me to consider applying for the MEd program later that year.

Course MDDE 610 “Survey of Current Educational Technology Applications” is my forth course in the program. I am looking forward to learning about new to me technologies and application of technologies in distance education. This site is built to record my reflection on the progress in this course and part of the assignment about building e-portfolios.

The Centre for Distance Education requires each student to build their e-portfolio by the end of the program. E-portfolio should reflect on and document student's unique learning journey in MEd program.

Requirements of this assignment are to record reflections on each module of this course. It should describe how I might use each technology in my professional life, in course design and/or in my personal life.  It will be interesting journey and I cannot wait to look back at the end of the course on what I learn and how much I grew.

Units of the course included in my notes are:

  • E-portfolios;

  • Learning Management Systems;

  • Technology;

  • Videoconferencing;

  • Computer Based education;

  • Social Software;

  • Web 2.0;

  • M-Learning;

  • Cloud computing.

I choose to use Wix.com for my MDDE610 e-portfolio, because it a new tool for me and I found it much more interactive and intuitive than Mahara (supported by the university e-portfolio platform). Hope you enjoy my presentation.
