MDDE 610: Survey of Current Educational Technology Applications

Unit 1. E-portfolios
Athabasca University defines Electronic portfolios (e-portfolios) as collection of web-based artefacts, digital objects and interactions with accompanying critical reflections that are posted and managed using knowledge management and reflection tools. They incorporate expression of ideas, information, arguments, and documentation, in graphic, text, audio, and video formats.
Unit 2. Learning Management Systems
Learning Management Systems can be defined as systems for online or blended educational environment that that used for delivery, administration, tracking and facilitation of courses.
Unit 3. Technology
Use of appropriate technologies in the instructional materials is very important. There are many technologies available out there for use and their list is constantly growing with technological evolution. This create a need of regularly analyze them in order to improve learners experience.
Unit 4. Videoconferencing
Videoconferencing becoming one of thechnologies that is more and more common now in everyday business and personal life. We use it for business meetings at work or to connect with loved ones in personal life.
Unit 5. Computer Based Education
One of the original uses of computers in education was computer-based education, where the instructions and/or tests has been delivered through computer software.
Unit 6. Social Software
Most of us use social software in personal day-to-day life to keep in touch with freinds and family or follow on topics that interests us. Social software in education identified with sharing of resources, collaborative learning, problem-based and inquiry-based learning, reflective learning, and peer-to-peer learning.
Unit 7. Web 2.0
Web 2.0 sites allow users to interact and collaborate with each other in a social media dialogue as creators of user-generated content, in contrast to Web sites where people are limited to the passive viewing of content.
Unit 8. M-Learning
M-learning basically means "mobile learning". It is convenient and as long as you have wireless Internet you can access it virtually anywhere and any time. M-Learning focus on using personal mobile devices.
Unit 9. Cloud Computing
Basically cloud computing and virtualization allow users to store their information or work remotely on a "cloud". Most known 'Cloud' technologies are web-emails, Apple Cloud, Google Drive.
